Dan Kerins Photography
We worked on:
Brand, Identity, Graphic Design, Exhibition Design & Catalogue.
We created this brand identity for photographer Dan Kerins.
Photography is about vision and Dan was keen to embrace some of the science of this, but also represent something of his visual interest in the dichotomy of nature and culture (man made) that he juxtaposes in his work.
We were aware from previous experience with working with creative sector clients that simple brands work best, as their brand assets need to sit alongside and complement a variety of different styles of images.
We looked into the science of vision, how the human eye works which has a direct relationship to the function of a SLR camera. We assigned geometric forms - a circle and a square representing nature and man made, and worked with cropping and framing (part of the process of photography) to arrive at his brand mark. It was no accident that the shapes also connected with his initials DK, which provided the impetus for resolving the forms. With light and shadow being of foremost concern to a photographer, a reversable black and white colour palette was the obvious choice.
